What Is NAD+?
NAD+ (Nicotinamide Adenine Dinucleotide) is a coenzyme found in every cell of the body. It plays a critical role in energy production, cellular repair, mitochondrial function, metabolism, and healthy aging.
You can think of NAD+ as one of the body’s essential “helper molecules” that allows cells to convert food into usable energy while also supporting the repair and maintenance processes that keep us healthy.
Unfortunately, NAD+ levels naturally decline as we age. By middle age, NAD+ concentrations can be significantly lower than they were in our younger years, potentially contributing to reduced energy, slower recovery, cognitive decline, and many of the changes associated with aging.
Why Is NAD+ Important?
Healthy NAD+ levels support many of the body’s most important functions:
Cellular energy production
Mitochondrial health and function
DNA repair and cellular resilience
Brain health and cognitive performance
Metabolic health and insulin sensitivity
Healthy inflammation response
Recovery from physical and mental stress
Longevity and healthy aging pathways
Researchers continue to study NAD+ because of its central role in many of the biological processes associated with vitality and lifespan.
NAD+, Mitochondria, and Aging
Mitochondria are often called the “power plants” of our cells because they generate the energy required for virtually every function in the body.
As NAD+ levels decline, mitochondrial performance may decline as well. This can contribute to:
Reduced energy
Mental fatigue
Slower recovery
Decreased physical performance
Accelerated cellular aging
Supporting healthy NAD+ levels is one of the strategies being explored to help maintain mitochondrial function and support overall healthspan.
Potential Areas of Interest
Emerging research has explored NAD+ support in relation to:
Healthy aging and longevity
Energy and vitality
Cognitive performance
Metabolic health
Athletic recovery
Cellular repair mechanisms
Mitochondrial optimization
Resilience to physical and mental stress
Research in these areas is ongoing, and much remains to be learned about the long-term impact of NAD+ optimization.
How Peak Health Approaches NAD+ Support
At Peak Health, we believe that energy, vitality, and healthy aging begin at the cellular level.
Our educational programs may explore NAD+ support as part of a broader strategy that can include:
Advanced laboratory testing
Mitochondrial health optimization
Nutritional support
Exercise and recovery strategies
Sleep optimization
Targeted supplements
Peptide education and protocols designed to support cellular health and resilience
Rather than focusing on a single intervention, we aim to create comprehensive plans that support the body’s natural ability to repair, adapt, and thrive.
The Peak Health Perspective
NAD+ is helping reshape how we think about aging. Rather than simply accepting declining energy and resilience as inevitable, researchers are increasingly exploring ways to support the cellular systems that help us maintain vitality throughout life.
While no single therapy is a magic solution, optimizing foundational processes such as mitochondrial function, cellular repair, and metabolic health may play an important role in extending not only lifespan, but healthspan—the number of years we live feeling vibrant, capable, and engaged in life.
At Peak Health, we’re committed to helping patients understand the emerging science of longevity and explore personalized strategies that support abundant health at every stage of life.
